"most snow in 50 years"

I was told recently that we just got the most snow that Jerusalem has seen in 50 years.  That fact through me a little, after all we got more snow the day it snowed in January than accumulated over the past few days.  Then I was told the explanation.  The statistic was apparently based on the total amount we got over the three days, it did not take into account that it would snow for a while, the snow would melt down, then more snow would fall.  I don't think there was ever more than 4 inches (10 cm) accumulated anywhere, but it has certainly shut things down here.  Much of Jerusalem lost electricity, no buses were running, the internet/phone lines were down in areas.  It was all a huge mess for something that would not have caused someone in Pennsylvania to think twice about, and would have barely given a pause even in England.
