"Music is God"

As I was riding into work this morning I  noticed some leaflets scattered on the ground.  I assume they were advertising a musical event, but the only words visible on the front were "Music is God."  At first  I thought, how sad; here are at least several individuals who have made music their god.  But then I got to thinking, at least they were honest about it.  How often I overheard people talking while I was at university to the essence that the "worship" service was the only reason they go to church.  Even after university the problem still existed. People may have disguised their words by using comments of how wonderful "worship" was, and how they wished it would go one even longer.  The problem is, worship should be 24/7.  It is easy to forget but worship ≠ worship music.  Worship music may be part of worship, but it can also become a god if that is our focus.  I suppose this is one of the reasons I have disliked most Christian music most of my life.  I have seen to much hypocrisy in it.  But music is not the only area we can stumble in.  Yesterday during staff devotions we were discussing the prodigal son.  That story of course brings up the concept of how even working for God can become a "god" if the focus moves away from God.  We need to make sure our focus is God, and not get bogged down in the details of life.
