Happy Hanukkah!

This year Hanukkah coincides with Thanksgiving instead of Christmas.  We are now into the lighting of three candles today.  For those of you that do not know, Hanukkah, or the Festival of Lights is holiday remembering the Maccabees freeing the land and the purification of the Temple.  According to tradition, there was only enough of the special oil required for the lamps in the temple to burn for one day.  Eight days would be required to make new oil for the temple.  Miraculously, the oil in the temple lamps burned for eight days until the new oil was ready.  The eight days of Hanukkah can be said to relate to this miraculous event.

Donuts are the modern traditional food to eat in Israel.  Unfortunately almost no one here knows how to make them properly.  The bread part is fairly tasteless and they have almost no jam inside them.
