Update

Now that I’m a bit more awake than when I wrote my previous post last night, I thought I would give you an update.  The sirens only went off that one time in Jerusalem, but they have continued going off in other parts of the country.  The Iron Dome took out 5 missiles over Tel Aviv this morning, and there is talk of evacuating the Ben Gurian International Airport. As far as Jerusalem goes, there is no ongoing major concern regarding rocket fire.  Any rockets hitting near here are most likely an accident, since the Arabs would not want to accidentally take out the Temple Mount area.  Although, as my roommate Sara said, that is only relatively comforting since Hamas has such bad aim.  Last night when the alarm went off two rockets did hit just outside the city.

As for my personal experience, I probably would have slept through the alarm, since I was already asleep when it went off, except for the fact that Sara panicked and was calling for me.  This is the first time Sara has been  here when the alarm went off so she did not know how to handle things.  We went out to the stairwell and waited with our neighbors for the alarm to go off.  The little boy (he might be seven or eight years old) was quite panicked about being taken from bed for the air raid.  It didn't help of course when we heard the impact of the two rockets which hit outside Jerusalem.  In cities like Sderot the alarm sounds almost daily, unlike cities further north, although we might be in for the increase in alarms since Hamas's missal range has just increased.  After the alarm went off, we headed back inside and made sure our bomb shelter kit was ready to go if the alarm went off again.  Fortunately it never did…
